About Us
In 2012, a network of freethinkers was formed via social media and the first meeting of freethinkers in Ghana was organized in the country’s capital Accra, where it has been based ever since. The group then adopted the name “Freethought Ghana” and become a social support group of freethinkers, atheists and agnostics which started off with 11 members and has grown exponentially to include Freethinkers from all over the world.
It was from this group that the Humanist Association of Ghana was born.
Advocacy | Activism
Our aim is to work with Civil Society Organizations and individuals fighting for minority rights as well as to create the space necessary for the capacity building required to create social change. Our Partners in this space include LGBTQI+ Ghana, CEPHERG, Learning Support Solutions, among others.
What we do
Safe Space
We organize our monthly free-thought meetings at the end of every month. Your presence will be most appreciated at these events.
Human Rights Advocacy
We strongly believe in human rights, as such we are actively involved in advocating for: LGBT rights, Gender rights, Educational Rights and more.
Conferences
We support freethinkers and humanists by organizing conferences to discuss questions of interest and concern to humanism.
Media Engagement
We believe that visibility is key to spreading humanism and educating people, so whenever given the opportunity we engage with the media on topics of concern to humanists
Community
To create community of safe spaces that include Social media networks. Currently, The Humanist Association manages on Facebook; Freethought Ghana Page, Freethinking Campus page and the Humanist Association of Ghana page. Other social media spaces include our Whatsapp group, Instagram page and Twitter page. Physical safe spaces will include Freethought meetings that foster discussions on humanism and social change, Get-togethers that serve to create social cohesion and create friendships and business associations.
